Matt Jarrell

My name is Matt Jarrell and I am a 5th year senior majoring in Public Relations and Communications. Since my freshman year, I have had a Costco-sized amount of passion for this university and its students. I have built community as a Resident Advisor, greeted incoming freshmen as a Lead Orientation Student Advisor, and participated in numerous campus activities. In my free time I enjoy running, painting, and watching bad reality television. In 2008-2009 as your VP for Activities, I created Project Leadership, a week of programs and activities to foster leadership development on campus. I also managed the programs and finances of over 200 clubs, and gave students an opportunity to voice their opinions on activities, events, and issues by getting the Associated Students on the Viking Village Community Forum.

As your Associated Students President, it is my goal to continue developing student outreach. I am a firm believer that being a good leader means being a good listener, so I plan to implement, “Help Me Help You: Talk Times with the AS President.” By November I hope to have had eight Talk Times, one in each of our colleges and one with our graduate students to gather their values and identify the strengths and challenges within our university. Another goal is to increase student participation and awareness around student fees, while ensuring that the quality of Western is maintained and still affordable. Your goals are my goals, so please feel free to come into my office to talk or hang out. I have Students in Mind, 100% of the Time.
