Welcome to the Business Office! My name is Kayle Walls and I am looking forward to serving as your Associated Students Business Director this 2007-2008 academic year. We have been working to develop this webpage to allow for efficient and easy access to your appropriate funds. It is my hope that you will utilize me, this webpage, and the Finance Office this year whenever you need direction or information.

Spend some time looking over the Business Office webpage and Budget Authority Handbook. The purpose of the webpage and handbook is to work as a tool for you to better understand the process of accessing your funds. It is important to become familiar with the policies and forms that you will be dealing with. The budget authority handbooks will also be available in my office for those who prefer a hardcopy (VU 513). I also urge you to all please plan ahead. All spending of funds must be approved in advance.

The role of Business Director is integral to the operation and management of the Associated Students. In my role as Business Director, I am charged with the responsibility of confirming that all AS funds are spent in accordance with the policies and guidelines set forth by the AS Board of Directors. This task involves running a system that works with the University's rules and procedures as well. When I am looking over your request, I need to understand the justification of why you need to spend that money. Because of this, it is important that you include as much information as possible when you submit something to me for approval. Remember always to fill forms out completely and be aware of the length of time it takes to process different requests. I would hate for an awesome program to get held up or not happen because of the Budget Authority's shortsightedness.

Finally, if used correctly, this webpage and the handbook should clear up many questions. But undoubtedly, some questions will arise that are not clearly covered. When questions arise, visit the Business Office in VU 513 or email me at AS.Business@wwu.edu. If I am unavailable you may also visit the Finance Office in VU 538 or call them at (360) 650-3150. I prefer you ask the questions that may seem trivial so your paperwork can be processed quickly and efficiently as possible.

I look forward to meeting you this year and seeing all of the great things that the Associated Students can do. Best of luck to you and your program!

Sincerely,
