African Caribbean Club (A.C.C.)

A support group for Africans and Caribbeans who are attendening Western. The purpose of the group is to bond together with the traditions that come from our various countries.

Black Student Union

The BSU is a social club for African American students. Goals are to provide ethnic minority students as well as majority students with a sense of community and ecuation about African American culture and history.

Campus Friends Club

We want to encourage strong, lasting friendships between Western students and the students of the Asia University America Program (AUAP) by going on fun excursions together. These excursions will introduce AUAP students, and maybe Western students as well, to exciting parts of Bellingham that they might never otherwise see.

Capoeira Club

The goal of the Capoeira Club is to promote the act of Capoeira and Afro-Brazilian culture. It is our belief that playing Capoeira can benefit anyone who wants to learn by improving physical fitness, self awareness, and self-confidence. As an art of the African slaves in Brazil, it is a fight for freedom, whether physical, mental, spiritual,emotional, or social. We are therefore committeed to raising awareness of how Capoeira can improve people's quality of life and also making it available to anyone who wants to join the Capoeira community.

International Movie and Tea Club

To organize the foreign exchange student group under one umbrella and to introduce them to various cultures through the viewing of foreign film. Each week a film from a different country will be shown, as well as having food and drink preparations by student members on a rotating basis.

Japanese Student Association

Japanese Student Association is to promote a better understanding of Japanese culture: free from stereotypes and idealized images of Japan and its people. The club is open for all who have an interest in learning more about Japan. It provides opportunities to discuss Japanese customs, travels, language, sports, fashion and arts. We, the members of Japanese Student Association, open that all members will be able to make connections with others through meetings and activities.

Korean Students Association

To promote and educate about Korean culture at Western. It provides opportunities to know Korean traditional customs, language, and ancient arts; in ancient Chinese texts, Korea is referred to as "Rivers and Mountains embroidered on silk." We, the members of Korean Students Association promote better understanding of Korean culture.

Mixed Identity Student Organization (MISO)

We seek to form an alliance of students who desire ownership over their own identities while respecting the identities of others. We seek to function as a social support resource promoting identity exploration and cross cultural understanding. As students whose own identities continually cross boundaries that historically have divided populations and cultural groups and whose intersections of identity are often not reflected by the dominant society, we seek to create a safe space to explore the politics of identity and race as a social construction in both a private and public atmosphere. We seek to educate ourselves and our community.

South Asian Students Association

The South Asian Students Association is to increase awareness and educate the University about South Asian culture and heritage, creating an environment in which students are encouraged to explore and experience the South Asian culture. By hosting various cultural and social events and by reaching out to other parts of the campus community, we plan on encouraging social interaction among South Asian, enhance student-faculty relations, and facilitate the adjustment process for incoming South Asian students.
