Event Image Auction Block to Hip Hop is a theatre production about a big Hip Hop mogul named Set Fo' Life. He is at a big award show where he wins awards for his hit record "Pimpin' ain't easy," and on that night he is visited by three ghosts who take him back to the time of his great great great grandfather and grandmother who are leading a slave revolt. He gets taken to the time when his mother and father fell in love as black panthers, and sees himself fall in love with his girlfriend at an anti-aparteid protest. He soon finds himself at a crossroads where he has to choose whether or not to buy into the system that degrades black women and perpetuates black stereotypes or choose to be on the outside and fight the power.

Time Magazine named Democracy Now! its "Pick of the Podcasts," along with NBC's Meet the Press.Goodman is the first journalist to receive the Right Livelihood Award, widely known as the 'Alternative Nobel Prize' for "developing an innovative model of truly independent grassroots political journalism that brings to millions of people the alternative voices that are often excluded by the mainstream media." This industry standard certification class will teach you how to recognize avalanche terrain, and provide a framework for managing risk and making decisions. This practical course will start with three sessions in the classroom, then a weekend in the Baker Backcountry learning to apply your knowledge.

Dec 9 to 11 will be evening classroom sessions, and Dec 12 and 13 will be on the snow.

The principle guest dancer is Mahomi Endoh from the Alberta Ballet, who performs the "dream Pas de Deux" in the role of Clair. It also features elaborate costumes and hand-painted backdrops by Russian artists. This event promises to be a true spectacle and a wonderful way to usher in the holiday season.

Wilderness First Responder certification class

The Outdoor Center has teamed up with Remote Medical International to offer this 80-hour "WFR" certification that is the standard worldwide for Outdoor Professionals. The Wilderness First Responder Course emphasizes decision-making, hands-on skills and theoretical knowledge necessary to function in remote areas, as well as providing a strong foundation to progress on to more advanced levels of training. Participants may be eligible to receive 5 credits from the University for this course.
